Three Ways to Experience and Manifest God in You.

Every human being has a bit of God in them. Think of it like Hercules in Greek mythology — part mortal, part godlike.

There are aspects of our nature that reflect God, giving us a kind of supernatural edge. But most of us aren’t fully aware of this truth, and as a result, we miss out on the power and purpose it offers.

Christians believe that life on Earth began with creation, a story beautifully told in the book of Genesis.

Genesis 1:26-27: Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Clearly, according to these verses, when we look in the mirror, we’re meant to see something God-like. But is it about physical appearance? How exactly are we like Him? Is it similar to how children resemble their parents?

I believe our resemblance to God goes far beyond the physical. In my view, there are three core characteristics of God reflected in humanity:

  1. SPIRIT: Just like God is, man is a spirit-being. A spirit that will live on long after the body dies.
  2. DOMINION: Just like God does, man has authority over creation.
  3. RELATIONSHIP: Just as the Trinity exists in relationship, humans were created to not be alone.

These characteristics should give us an advantage right? In light of these three ways in which we are like God, how should we live life on earth? How can we experience the supernatural by engaging these three aspects of our being?

  1. By becoming more aware of our spiritual selves. Meditate more...learn how to subdue the flesh so that we can hear the spirit.
  2. By learning how we influence nature and the future to our advantage. Make bold declarations.
  3. By intentionally investing in key relationships to build intimacy. For example the oneness of men and women in marriage reflects the disctinction and yet oneness of the Triune God.
In totality, we resemble God in our spiritual, moral, intellectual, relational, and vocational nature. It’s a deep and beautiful concept that gives dignity to every human life, and it's foundational to a rich and full Christian experience.
