Africa Wake Up!

I really do not know why I have this huge passion for Africa. I cannot explain it, but irrespective of all its problems, my heart lies there. And somehow I expect every African to feel the same way, but unfortunately, most Africans in the diaspora are "allergic" to their home countries.

I am not denying that most African countries are suffering from serious political and economic issues, but the solution most of us have to the problem is "running away" to settle and contribute to another country's growth. If the founding fathers of successful nations like the United States had done the same, I wonder if there will be an America to run to today.

And that is the problem with Africans, there are almost no "Nelson Mandelas" or "Martin Luther King Jrs" in Africa. Very few, in fact almost no one is willing to make the sacrifice of returning home to make his/her country a better place. I use the word "sacrifice" because I know that doing anything positive in most of these countries will not be easy. Especially since it means giving up the luxury and comfort of the Western world. I just wish a couple of us will realize that an opportunity to obtain a Western education is a chance to take home knowledge and information that can actually make a difference.
You know what? Even as an African who decides to make his home in one of the Western nations, there is so much you can do to help...so much...if only you will try...
