Happy Valentine's Day!
So this year's Lovers Day movie happens to be the very much anticipated "fifty shades of grey." Based on a book that sold more than a hundred million copies, one can only imagine how many people (ladies especially) are flocking to see the movie right now. All the buzz got me thinking though...it got me thinking about sex. Let us face it, that is what the book/movie is about right? That is why most people love it; in contemporary society, sex sells. I really tried reading the novel, but could not get past a third of it for two reasons; 1. too erotic (and mind you I'm no novice to romance/erotic novels, like most teenage girls I read a lot of them in high school) 2. Story was not captivating...my curiosity to see the end was not enough to keep me reading.
So, like I was saying, what has indeed become of sex? What strikes me most is the fact that sexual relations were indeed created by a holy and pure God. Sex is a beautiful thing. "An act of worship in the temple of marriage." as an American preacher once put it. It is a sacred act capable of establishing an indescribably strong bond between two people. However, our world has corrupted and tarnished this beauty...reduced and cheapened it to something common, impure and dirty. Too bad very few will get to experience the fullness of what God created in the physical union of two souls committed to each other in holy covenant. Now, that is sad.
No matter how wild we get, we will still only be scratching the surface when it comes to the satisfaction God intended for man to experience in this act. We keep pushing the limits with perversity because of the deceptive assumption that sexual pleasure is heightened with increased perversity. Sexual intercourse is beyond physical. As long we keep God out of it and refuse to do it His way, we will keep pushing, and unfortunately come to the end of our lives still looking for something more. We cannot disagree with the fact that no one knows how to work a device better than it's manufacturer.
Surrender.
Christ is the answer.
Call on Jesus.
It is never too late.
God help us.
