So, the other day my husband and I had lunch with a friend from church and he said something I am not likely to forget anytime soon. We were in the middle of a conversation about the recent unsettling events that flood the news daily when he mentioned how he no longer prays for peace and order. Why? Because these recent events are only a fulfillment of what was prophesied in Scripture. In the last days the conflict, natural disasters and moral decadence will be at an all time high...what use is it praying against them? I could not agree with him more. If I indeed believe the Bible to be true, wouldn't I expect things to only get worse? So instead of praying against all the chaos, let us pray for God's will to be done, for the grace to live through it all, and for the salvation of many more even in these difficult times.
On the 26th of June 2015, the US Supreme Court legalized homosexual marriage in all 50 states of the country. The western world celebrated this as a victory. The Christian world groaned. This sparked several conversations on the world wide web, many applauding this as a sign of "progress" from archaic times and labeling those not so happy about the ruling (particularly Christians) as hateful and/or intolerant. All the "talking" opened my eyes to just how unfair the whole gay-propaganda is. The gay community and its advocates strive for tolerance in one direction only because they sure do lack tolerance for religious groups who do not support their lifestyle. What happened to religious freedom? How could a bakery in Oregon be sued and fined 135,000 USD because they refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple? Because they refused to be part of and contribute to a ceremony that celebrates what their faith clearly labels as sin. There is a reason why "Aiding and Abetting" is a crime in the US. People do not get it. Or is it that they choose not to get it? It was not about baking a cake, it was about being part of something you believe to be wrong...thus committing sin yourself. And why couldn't this couple seek the services of another bakery? That was not the only bakery in the area. Stuff like this really gets me riled up. Is it misunderstanding, miscommunication or a blatant refusal to understand the Christian point of view? Well, in attempt to communicate, I commented on the homosexuality issue on a blog I visited a few weeks ago:
Kids grow up with an affinity for all things sweet but not so much for what is healthy. Does that mean one allows them to indulge as a parent? No. You shove the veggies down their throat if you have to because you love them and you know that’s what is best for them. I don’t see how that is different from homosexuality. If my kid opens up to me about having same-sex attraction (ATTRACTION, NOT LOVE…there is a difference), I do not dismiss it and call him/her names, but I make him/her understand that it is not every desire/craving that we give in to. Some are just not good for us. We are all born into sinful human nature, that is why wrong feels right and right is often hard to do. I’ll tell him/her to pray and exercise self-control. So I side with those who say homosexuality is a choice. A choice to give in to temptation.
I am married now, but is my husband the last man I will ever be attracted to? NO. Every time I have to face that temptation in the future (though I pray I would not have to), I will by God’s grace CHOOSE not to give in. Because if I do, I commit adultery. I sin.
Why is one who openly disapproves of the homosexual lifestyle quickly labeled intolerant or hateful? Why can’t most people see that such disapproval can be done in love and with the best interest of the person in question in mind?
Last year, I lost one of my closest friends to cancer. The first couple of months after her death were agonizing because I kept wondering where she was…hoping and praying she truly did give her life to Christ during her last days. That is how I learnt that I love my friends more by correcting them instead of silently condoning (that is what we do when we are indifferent) their wrongdoing. After all, what is a hundred years on earth compared to eternity thereafter?
Over the years I have gotten to know a few gay people. My approach? I love them. I am there for them. But I am always clear about one thing: I disagree with their lifestyle. To those who identify as Christians, I remind them of the need to repent and change. To those who do not identify as Christians, I share the gospel with them, praying they will accept Jesus and change.
P.S: I know some may think this kind of thinking is not applicable to “non-Christians” and to that I will say the true Christian knows his Truth is not limited to him alone. That is why we have the great commission to go out and spread the gospel. Because when the flood finally hit in the days of Noah, everyone was killed. Including those who did not believe in God."
Well, there is lot more happening these days but I will end here for now. This post is already long enough. On that note, I leave you with these words; work hard, learn more and seek Jesus. This world makes no sense without Him.
Blessings
