On July 13th 2015, Boko Haram successfully infiltrated the northern borders of Cameroon in a fatal way. Since the beginning of this year Cameroon has struggled to secure its borders against the Islamic militants, and that struggle has of course recently intensified.
The combined efforts of Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Benin and Niger have yielded some results over time. One being the confiscation of Boko Haram weapons , a significant portion of which were identified as being French. Now is this a coincidence or a shred of evidence pointing us to something bigger? Something more sinister. Could this whole Boko Haram fiasco be a conspiracy to destabilize these African countries to some Western political or economic end? Think about it. How can illiterate fanatics sustain an insurgence of this kind for this long? There must be a brain and pocket behind it all, and I hope I am not the only one who realizes that. How long will it take for our leaders to wake up and smell the coffee? Africa is not Europe's priority! When decisions are made in the West, they are made for the good, well-being and sustenance of Western economic power. Think about how and why all the pro-African leaders were taken down historically. But no, most African leaders are too busy accepting peanuts in exchange for the extensive wealth of our countries. And we the African people lie in passivity due to ignorance or cowardice, worshiping at the altar of western luxury.
If the west really wanted to help us I do not think most African countries (especially French Africa) will be where they are today. However, implementing policies and taking measures to secure African well-being is not up to foreigners. It is up to Africans. But as long as we are distracted by what the West throws at us, we shall never really take action. As long as we are not ready to sacrifice comfort, resources and even life, we shall remain at the mercy of the almighty West. I love what Mallence Bart-Williams had to say on her TED talk; Self-help. We need to propagate such ideologies, and we definitely need Sankara-minded leadership to snatch us away from European control and establish our own economic and financial autonomy.
